Answer: NO, letting tap water sit for a few days will not remove chlormines. The practice of filling a container with tap water and sitting aside for few days before using it in an aquarium works fine when chlorine alone is present. Chlorine dissipates from water rapidly on its own but chloramines can stay in the water for weeks. Tap water contains both short acting chlorine and long acting chlorine (chloramine) as well as nitrates and phosphates.
